When most people hear Etsy, they think of all DIY crafty things. In fact, a lot of people do not realize the selling capabilities Etsy offers to those looking to sell their products or services.
The great thing is that Etsy offers a Seller Policy they termed “Our House Rules” that lists the items allowed to be sold on the Etsy platform. There are many ways that you can earn money on Etsy.
Read 5 ways Ways to Earn Money on Etsy below!
1. Selling Jewelry to Earn Money on Etsy
Selling crafts and handmade items on Etsy is one of the most popular routes Etsy sellers have taken to Earn Money on Etsy. If you have a knack for DIY and designing, Etsy is definitely a place you should research when it comes to trying to earn money online.
Selling custom jewelry is one of my favorite things to research in the Etsy Marketplace. That is simply because their are tons of beautiful designs that are being handcrafted and sold by people like you and me.
If you are good with creating rings, necklaces, or bracelets, you should definitely be selling your custom creations on Etsy! While there are a lot of sellers in the overall jewelry category, they are in there for the right reasons. The jewelry market is hot when it comes to buyers on Etsy.
Paying special attention to product displays and pictures are really important if you are selling jewelry online. Be sure to provide unique displays and capture clear pictures of the items you are selling. Scout other similar shops to get an idea of how much others are charging. If you have a passion for creating beautiful statement pieces, try opening an Etsy shops today to see how well you could fare!
2. Selling Printables to Earn Money on Etsy
Another huge market on Etsy is the selling of printables. Printables have literally helped skyrocket many people in to 6 figure businesses. What exactly are printables? Well, pretty much any document or template that you create and that your seller prints themselves. The great thing about selling printables, is the low overhead cost of starting a printable business.
If you have a free program like Google Docs, you can create printables and start selling them on Etsy right away. Of course, I would definitely recommend buying a subscription to a designing software like Canva because you will be able to take your printable designs and templates so much further.
You can create printables of just about anything. Financial planners and organizational planners are extremely popular on Etsy. Other popular printables on Etsy include: budget planners, calendars, weekly planners, party supplies (like cupcake toppers, banners, gift tags, birthday invites, etc), habit trackers, life coaching guides, color by number templates, worksheets for teachers, etc.
People even sell sewing patterns and there really are so many options when it comes to printables. The best thing to do is find something you have a passion about and list all the ways you can create something that is printable. With such a low overhead cost to start, printables are really a great way to start earning online with Etsy.
Anyone who uses the internet has most likely come into contact with an ebook here or there. eBooks have helped some people become insanely rich. Most use their eBooks as part of their sales funnels or they sell on Amazon. Not many people think about selling their ebooks on Etsy. Etsy does not have as much competition in the ebook category as a place like Amazon.
You can create ebooks on pretty much anything and you can create them for free. Find a topic that you are knowledgeable in and create a guide or ebook about it. There are many programs that can help you format your ebook and even help you create ebook covers. You could create an ebook on your favorite things like recipes, quotes, scripture, or parenting.
You could create a how to guide that could show people how to sew pillows or how to potty train your toddler. Other ebook ideas could be on makeup tips or your favorite workouts. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating an ebook to earn money on Etsy.
3. Selling Candles to Earn Money on Etsy
Another favorite category of mine on Etsy are the candles! I love candles and can never get enough of the amazing scents that are available on Etsy. The great thing about candles is they are relatively easy to make and the products needed to start creating candles are relatively cheap.
There are a lot of candle sellers on Etsy as well, but you can easily find your way into the market by offering more unique candles designs or scents. Take a look at some of the best selling candles on Etsy and see if you notice a trend. Are they using similar colors or scents? Are their pictures being displayed in a certain manner? Brainstorm ideas of certain scents that you would like or even certain colors and designs. There are many ways for you to create a successful candle shop on Etsy while still being able to stand out from your competition.
You can buy everything you need to start your home candle business directly from Amazon. Amazon is one of my favorite places to buy because you can usually get bulk ingredients at a fraction of the cost. Amazon is one of the biggest online shopping platforms and usually offer the greatest quality for a more affordable cost. Plus, you get to read all the reviews before you buy a product, so I highly recommend shopping through Amazon.
4. Selling Custom T-Shirts to Earn Money on Etsy
Another popular product to sell and make money on Etsy are custom designed t-shirts. T-shirts are an evergreen market, which means that they will be in need forever. Designing custom t-shirts to earn money on Etsy is not hard and it doesn’t need to be expensive.
In fact, Printify is a FREE program that allows you to upload your custom designs and bring your t-shirt designs to life on screen. Prinitfy is a drop ship company that allows you to promote their products on your website or Etsy shop with your designs, and then once someone purchases the product from your store, you order the product from Printify and they ship to your customer.
You can create your t-shirt designs with Adobe or Canva. You are also able to integrate your printify store with your Esty shop so that you can streamline the ordering process. It’s a great way to create not only custom designed t-shirts, but so many other products as well!
You can design custom leggings, cell phone cases, clocks, bags, shower curtains, and more! The design possibilities are endless with Printify and Etsy and starting with little investment makes it that much more possible for you to earn money on Etsy.
5. Selling Graphic Designs to Earn Money on Etsy
Another popular niche on Etsy is all things graphic design. The market is popular with items like logo designs, birthday invitation designs, blog banner designs, and so much more. Maybe you already sell similar design services on sites like Fiverr. If so, it may be worth taking a look to see if there is a way you could implement some of those same services and products on an Etsy shop.
If you are great at creating designs, think about selling them on Etsy. You can really think outside the box when it comes to creating designs or templates for sale on Etsy. Again, you definitely want to have a design software like Adobe or Canva to help you create custom designs and templates.
Canva is free to use, but I highly recommend using the Canva for Work so that you can download your designs with transparent backgrounds and get access to tons of stock photos if needed.
Now is the Time to Earn Money on Etsy
Earning money on Etsy is definitely possible. If you are looking for a new platform to sell your products, Etsy is worth researching. I would definitely take the time to search for similar products to see if there are any already being sold or what the market looks like. From selling handmade items to printables or custom t-shirts, Etsy has plenty of growth for sellers of all industries. According to Statista,
This statistic presents the number of active buyers on social commerce platform Etsy from 2012 to 2017. As of 2017, close to 33.4 million buyers had purchased goods through the Etsy ecosystem. This figure represents an increase from the 28.6 million buyers in the previous year.
Helping Buyers Find Your Shop
With so many Etsy sellers, there is a lot of competition on certain niches. For example, if you search on Etsy for wedding invitations, you get close to half a million results! That’s some serious competition, but if there was not a lot of money in it, there wouldn’t be. In the screenshot below, you can see a few of the results that popped up.
If you broke the type of wedding invitation you are creating into a smaller niche, that may be useful if you are just beginning to sell on Etsy. See the orange tabs at the top of the screenshot? Etsy basically gives you similar searches or more broken down niche products that may be beneficial to you.
For example, we will click on the first orange tab that is listed as “rustic wedding invitations” and see how many results we get.
“Rustic wedding invitations” brings up a search page with a little over 70,000 results. Once again, Etsy gives us more specific keywords that we can use when deciding on what products are popular and which may have less competition or even an untapped niche.
SEO comes in to major play with Etsy. If you click on almost ANY listing, you will see how stuffed the keywords are in product titles and descriptions. Etsy also allows you to choose categories and tags for products to be listed under.
If you know your way with SEO and keywords, you may have great success with selling on Etsy. You could have the greatest product in the world, but if you are not using keywords that a buyer is searching for, you may never even show up in the results.
You just have to do a little soul searching to find out how your current business could monetize with Etsy. Yet, with over 30 million buyers last year, you have a great chance of selling some of your awesome products. If you have had luck with selling your products on Etsy, comment and let us know below!
